Le BonBon French Macaron Giveaway

A macaron (French pronunciation: [makaˈʁɔ̃] is a sweet meringue-based confectionery made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food colouring. The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies. Its name is derived from the Italian word maccarone or maccherone.

 

The confectionery is characterised by its smooth, squared top, ruffled circumference (referred to as the "foot"), and flat base. It is mildly moist and easily melts in the mouth.

 

My Mom first introduced me to Macarons a couple of years ago.  I thought they were amazing and delicious and very "fancy".  I've never gotten around to making them because they looked so dang difficult to make. 

 

Le BonBon has an etsy store that has the most amazing looking macarons.  They are located in Los Angeles and have been open only a short amount of time.  But with their unique confections I have no doubt in my mind that they will be around for a long time.

 

I was lucky enough to try a dozen macaron sampler box.  That's 12 of these amazing little treats.  I don't want to call them cookies because they seem like so much more than a cookie.  They remind me of a dessert my Grandmother would have served with tea in the afternoon.  My Grandmother was first class and she would have loved these.

 

Take a look at some of the pictures found on the website.  They are so much better than the pictures I took!  Amazing, right?

This is what came in the mail for us to try.
 

 

They were packed with extreme care.  Each macaron was individually wrapped in bubble wrap to keep them from getting crushed.
 

 

We had the pleasure of trying the following flavors:

Silver: Metallic Silver Shimmer French Macaron with White Chocolate Strawberry Neon Ganache

Yellow: Pink Lemonade French Macaron

Teal: Seafoam Green Vanilla and Milk Chocolate Ganache Shimmer French Macaron

Deep Purple: Black and Lavender Cassis White Chocolate Ganache French Macaron

Pink: Hot Pink Raspberry White Chocolate Ganache French Macaron

 

I thought they all were delicious.  The outside was a little crunchy (for lack of a better word).  It was crisp, almost like a meringue, and then the inside was soft and chewy.  The filling was very flavorful.

 

My daughter loved the Hot Pink Raspberry White Chocolate Ganache.  (She snuck them when I wasn't looking.) 
 

 

And I think my favorite was the Seafoam Green Vanilla and Milk Chocolate Ganache.
