Mustache Cookie Cutter Set Review and Giveaway

If you've done any searching of the web the past year or so you know how popular mustache paraphernalia is.  There is mustache glasses, jewelry, tattoos, drinking glasses and so much more.  When I saw these adorable mustache cookie cutters I fell in love.  How cute are they!  I have a co-worker that will flip when she sees cookies shaped like mustaches.  I can't wait!

I love making sugar cookies (although I'm not very good at the frosting part.)  But I'm going to give it a shot with these cute cutters.

The great things about these 100% stainless steal cookie cutters are that they are deep.  They aren't those plastic cookie cutters that are less than 1/2 inch thick.  Those work great then you're making a thin sugar cookie.  But I like my sugar cookies thick.  And if you want to make other things with these cookie cutters, like fun shaped sandwiches or tortillas, they cut perfectly.

This mustache set is complete with 3 differentt styles, and is sure to make you the hit of any party or event.  They measure around 4"W x 1.25-1.5"T but vary depending on shape.

You can find these great mustache cookie cutters, along with a plethora of other great mustache fun on Fuzzy Ink.  You can also find them on Twitter, and Facebook.

And here's the best part, one of you get to win one of these mustache cookie cutter sets!  Just enter on the rafflecopter below.

Giveaway open to US residents, 18 years of age and older and ends on May 20th.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Oreo Cookie Pound Cake

Pound cake + Oreos?  Oh man.  Pure heaven!  And here's the icing on the cake... it's a Paula Dean recipe!  That made it a no brainer for us.  We knew it was going to be amazing!
Here is Oregon students have to take the OAKS state assessment tests in certain content areas.  My son exceeded on his math test so I told him I was going to make him any dessert he wanted so we could celebrate.  He didn't even have to think.  He said "pound cake!"  And guess what his favorite cookie is.  Yep, Oreos.  I went onto Pinterest and pulled up the picture of this Oreo Cookie Pound Cake and the look on his face was hysterical.  Yep, this is what he chose.
Great choice!

Oreo Cookie Pound Cake

* 1 1/4 cups butter, softened
* 3 cups sugar
* 6 large eggs
* 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 cup heavy whipping cream
* 25 Oreo cookies, crushed
* 2 cups powdered sugar
* 3 Tablespoons whole milk

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Spray a 12 or 15 cup fluted pan with nonstick baking spray.  I love the "baking" kind with flour in it.  It works great!

Crush the Oreo cookies.  My son is my official Oreo cookie crusher.  He puts them in a zip lock bag and pounds them =o)

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar at medium speed until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Gradually add flour alternately with cream, beginning and ending with flour, beating until just combined after each addition.

Spoon half of batter into prepared pan. Top evenly with half of crushed cookies.

Spoon remaining batter over cookies. Top with remaining crushed cookies.

Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until a tester comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack.

In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle glaze over cooled cake and top with cookie crumbs.

It really was delicious.  The pound cake was amazing and with the addition of Oreos - it was quite the treat.  My son said it is his new favorite pound cake.  Which says a lot because he LOVES my other pound cake I make all the time.

Don't you wish you had a slice?  =o)

Cinnamon Chip Coffee Cake

What are your thoughts on birthdays?  Not everyone else's, but your own.  Do you love them?  Do you hate them?  Do you celebrate alone, with family and friends or do you just want to forget they exist?
I love my birthday.  Love, love, love my birthday!  I love that there's one day out of each year that is my day.  I get to do whatever I want and I think to myself "it's my birthday, why not?!"
It was my birthday last weekend.  Guess what I did.  I cooked and baked and cleaned my house and then babysat for some friends.  Huh... that didn't really go as planned.  So maybe I need to re-think this whole birthday thing.  Maybe it's not the best day ever.  Nah.  I'm going to persevere =o)  Maybe next year I'll get to celebrate and whoop it up like I always think I'm supposed too.  (I keep saying that.)
Anywho....
I don't think this Bundt Cake even needs an introduction.  Right?  I mean, seriously.  Look at it.  It's a Bundt cake.  It has cinnamon chips in it.  And it has a glaze on top.  "Nuff said!
Anita over on Aunt Nubby's Kitchen posted this not too long ago.  It was one of those "holy-cow-I'm-so-making-that-this-weekend" things.  And am I glad we did!  We gobbled it up instantly!   It was delicious - moist and cinnamony and perfect.
Cinnamon Chip Coffee Cake
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup applesauce
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
one 10 ounce package of Hersheys Cinnamon Baking Chips
 3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3-4 Tbsp. warm water
In a stand mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Add the eggs and beat well.  Add vanilla and applesauce and mix until blended.  Add flour, baking soda and salt and mix well.  Gently mix in the cinnamon chips.  (You can also add pecans or walnuts but we chose not too.)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Spray a bundt pan with non-stick cooking spray.  The kind with flour works best.

Spread batter into pan and bake for 40-45 minutes.

Cool in the pan for about 15 minutes then transfer to a wire cooling rack until slightly warm.
It's pretty darn good just like this!
But doesn't it just look a little "fancier" with frosting drizzled on it?
To make the glaze, add vanilla and cinnamon to the powdered sugar.  Add the warm water one tablespoon at a time and mix well after each addition.  You want all the lumps out of it while it's still thick.  Add enough water to make it the consistency you want.  You want to be able to pour it over the coffee cake but not so thin that it runs down the sides and just pools on the plate.
And because we can never leave anything alone... drizzle a little more frosting on it =o)
Enjoy warm or cold.

Zucchini Parmesan Crisps

It's Secret Recipe Club reveal day!  I love this day.  I love looking through all the amazing pictures and trying to guess who had my blog for the month.  I also love trying out new recipes to share with you all.  (Okay, to share with me, but I didn't want to sound selfish.)

This month my assignment was The Ginger Snap Girl.  Gloria is the author of this wonderful foodie blog and I loved looking through all her recipes.  Gloria and I have a lot in common.  Well, not the big things, like her being married and having 3 cats.  I don't have either of those.  And the fact that she lives in sunny California.  Not me.  But the more important things, like, we both LOVE donuts, we love our DVRs (how did I live without it), love to take road trips and we both love to love on our nieces and nephews.  Oh yeah, and bake cookies!

I had every intention of making a delicious dessert recipe from Gloria's blog.  I kind of have a thing with desserts.  I love them.  But then I saw her Zucchini Parmesan Crisps and I knew it was love at first site.  I LOVE zucchini!

Zucchini Parmesan Crisps

1 pound of zucchini (about 2 medium)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs
1/4 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper

1/4 cup ranch dressing (optional)

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.  Line a baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray.  I used Non Stick Parchment Paper because I love the stuff.

Prepare bread crumb mixture.  Place Parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, salt and pepper in a medium bowl and mix.

Slice the zucchini into 1/4 inch rounds and place in a medium size bowl.  I used my Crinkle Cut Knife because I was told wavy veggies hold more dip =o)  So I thought maybe that meant breading too.

Drizzle zucchini with olive oil and toss to evenly coat all the slices.  Coat each slice generously with the bread crumb mixture.  Pat crumbs into the slices to get a good even coating.  I couldn't get the coating to stay on very well so I dipped my slices in a beaten egg.

Place each slice on the prepared baking sheet leaving a little bit of room in between each slice.  Bake 25 - 30 minutes until zucchini is tender and breadcrumbs are golden brown and crisp.  Of course you can also fry these bad boys in oil.  That's always my first choice =o) but I was having company over for dinner and I wanted to appear be somewhat healthy.  =o)

Serve while still warm with ranch dressing or Garlic Aioli Sauce.

Did you miss my other Secret Recipe Club posts?  Here they are, just in case =o)

 Ummm, can you say sweet tooth?  =o)

Massdrop Keurig Giveaway Event

MAKING MEMORIES WITH YOUR KIDS Welcomes You to the Massdrop Giveaway Event

Are you a coffee drinker? I'm not a coffee drinker but I own a Keurig and I LOVE IT!!!!  It's so easy to make hot chocolate, hot spiced cider and Chai Tea.  I drink Chai Tea every morning.  So easy!  And I love that I have k cups of coffee for when I have company.  It's one of my favorite kitchen gadgets/appliances by far!

Massdrop takes a group of people that each want to buy the same thing, combines their order, and places that order directly with the manufacturer. If you are interested in a product for a group buy you can start a poll to see how many people might be interested. When people vote on a poll, Massdrop calls the manufacturer and negotiates with them to get the group the best price possible.

As a result, everybody in the group gets the large quantity price while only having to buy one, or however many you want. Of course, the larger the group the better price everyone will get!!

Massdrop just had this great group buy on a Keurig B60 Single-Cup Home-Brewing System. Normally, this Keurig retails for around $169.99 but, Massdrop worked their magic and offered it for $97.00! Even though this deal has ended you can "request" the group to be on again, or create a poll to vote for upcoming group buys you want.

One lucky winner will receive a Keurig B60 Single-Cup Home-Brewing System!!

Chicken and Broccoli Pockets

I just love these Chicken and Broccoli Pockets and have been making them for years.  I'm not sure where I first found the recipe.  Probably in one of those Pillsbury cookbooks that you find in the checkout aisle.  (I love those little cookbooks!)  I've lost the actual recipe and just whip these up without measuring anything, adding more or less of what I want or have in the fridge.  They are easy and delicious!

Chicken and Broccoli Pockets

* Cresent rolls
* 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
* 2 cups steamed broccoli
* 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
* 1/2 cup sour cream
* 1/4 to 1/2 cup ranch dressing- depending on how creamy you want the mixture to be
* salt and pepper to taste

Mix the cream cheese, ranch dressing and sour cream together until smooth.  Add the chicken and broccoli and mix well.  Add salt and pepper.

Lay out your Cresent rolls and pinch together the sides of 2 rolls to make a rectangle.  Plop a good amount of filling in the middle of the dough.

Fold the sides over and pinch to seal.

Bake according to the Cresent roll package

Easy and so darn good!

Enjoy!

Snickers Brownie Trifle

I've never made a Trifle before.  I've had the serving bowl for almost 2 years now and I can't believe I've never used it.  (Have I mentioned that I have a little bit of a "kitchen paraphernalia" obsession?  Yep.  My name is Erin and I'm addicted to kitchen gadgets and goodies.)
When my Mom asked me to bring dessert to Easter lunch I wanted to try out my hand at Trifle making.   Head to the forehead moment.  Why haven't I made these before?!  So easy and amazingly delicious!  And pretty cool looking to boot.  Can't go wrong with that, right?
There are a ton of Trifle recipes out there.  I went with this one because one, I love NIkki's blog and two, it just sounded awesome.  The pudding layer had sweetened condensed milk whipped into it and that sounded mouth wateringly delicious!  I added a few things (like caramel and Snickers bars) and there you have it... Snickers Brownie Trifle.
Snickers Brownie Trifle
Slightly adapted from: Chef In Training

* brownie mix
* ingredients to make the brownies (eggs, oil and water)
* 1 (3.9 oz) box instant chocolate pudding mix
* 1/2 cup water
* 1 (14 oz) can Sweetened Condensed Milk
* 1 (8 oz.) container Cool whip
* 1 (12 oz.) container Cool Whip
* caramel sauce
* 6 Snickers candy bars

Make the brownies according to the package directions.  I made the family size (9x13) pan of chewy brownies.  Let cool completely.

Whip the chocolate pudding mix, water and sweetened condensed milk until fluffy.  Gently fold in 8 ounces of Cool Whip.

Cut brownies into squares.  I cut mine into 1 to 1 1/2 inch squares (not too big but not crumbled).
To assemble the Trifle:

Add a layer of brownies to the bottom of the Trifle bowl using 1/2 of the brownies.
Drizzle caramel sauce over the top of the brownies.
Sprinkle with a handful of the chopped Snickers.
Cover with half of the chocolate pudding mixture.
Cover that layer with Cool Whip.
Now repeat (brownies, caramel, Snickers, pudding and Cool Whip.)
Top with chopped Snickers bars and drizzle with more caramel sauce

Refrigerate 8 hours before serving.
I thought this dessert was awesome!  The pudding layer tasted like a chocolate mousse, the brownies soaked up a little bit of the caramel and the whipped cream and Snickers?  To die for!  Definitely something I will make again.
What do you think?  Pure chocolate heaven?
