Lego Birthday Party: The Goody Bags

Goody bags are an important part of a birthday party (so say my kids.) I love making goody bags! And these were so much fun to make. (Although it's getting more difficult as my kids get older to come up with great ideas.) I don't like all the cheap, useless things in goodie bags. My kids come home with them and they just sit around for months before I throw them away.  (The goody bags, that is... not my kids.)  =o)

I found some primary colored bags at Michaels and added "bumps" to them with my circle cutter and dimensionals (to make them "pop".)  =o)  They look like Lego blocks, don't they?

We filled them with Lego chocolates that I made.

They don't even look like chocolate do they?  The topper was a free printable I found here.  (Thank you Amber from Crazy Little Projects.  Yeah for free printables!)

I found these fun containers at Michaels and filled them with Lego candy that I found at the candy store at the mall.  (I'm sure you can find the candy online too.)

I don't know about your kids but mine are totally into hand sanitizer.  Is that strange?  They love it and I'm okay with that.  It's better than mud, right?  =o)  But check out the name of this hand sanitizer - Dragon Blood!  So cool!

I'm pretty proud of our Lego heads.  I found the idea on obSEUSSed and loved it.  We just painted baby food jars and added faces with a sharpie marker.

Then we filled them up with M&Ms.  (Who doesn't like M&Ms?!)

We also put gum in the bags but that has nothing to do with Lego =o)  We just wanted to add one more thing.

My son is pretty happy with how they turned out.  What do you think?

Snikiddy Snacks Review and Giveaway

Have you ever heard of Snikiddy Snacks?  If you have, then you know how delicious these good for you snacks are. If you haven't, then you are missing out!

Snikiddy is a company started in 2006 by a mother and daughter team who was looking for healthy snack foods.  Because let's face it, we all want to eat bags and bags of chips but who can do that?! And who wants to feed all of that to your kids?!  Not me!

Snikiddy is short for the word persnikety (which means choosey or picky.) Who has a picky eater out there? (My hand is raised, BTW.)

They currently have three products: cheese puffs, baked fries and eat your vegetables.   Where to even start???

The cheese puffs come in two flavors: grilled cheese and mac n' cheese.  We tried the grilled cheese and we loved them!  They were crunchy and airy and full of flavor!  They contain no corn syrup, no hydrogenated oils, no trans fat, no preservatives, are low in saturated fat and are wheat and gluten free.

The baked fries were another of our favorites.  They come in cheddar cheese, sea salt, barbeque, original seasoning, classic ketchup, bold buffalo and southwest cheddar.  Again, they were delicious!  My kids said "these taste really good, even better than french fries!"  They also have 50% less fat than regular potato chips.

And the Eat Your Vegetables are so cool.  They have a full service of veggies in every ounce!  This part sold me.  My kids are pretty good fruit and veggie eaters but I love sneaking in more veggies!  Especially when they don't know it.  (Is that bad?)  We ate them with salsa and we loved them.  My kids would NEVER guess that they were anything but "regular" chips and I had the peace of mind knowing they were eating something much healthier.  They are also wheat and gluten free, are all natural and an excellent source of vitamin A.  They are made from a unique blend including sweet potatoes, carrots and navy beans.  Yum!

Snikiddy Snacks are gluten and wheat free, contain no preservatives and no corn syrup.  This is amazing.  I have a friend who has been gluten free for years and I can't wait to tell her about these!  She will be so excited.

{Wordless Wednesday} Why I like Living In a Small Town

Honey Bun Cake

My kids love Honey Buns. No wait... let me say that again... my kids LOVE Honey Buns. They do!  Which makes me laugh because they cost like $2 and 6 come in a pack.  How cheap is that?!  But we don't buy them that often (which they remind me of constantly.)  They taste a little "processed" for me.

When I was looking at some of my favorite blogs the other day I clicked on Raising 4 Princesses and saw this amazing Honey Bun Cake.  Holy heck!  Honey Bun Cake!  Maria said that she has been making this for years and her family loves it.  I was so excited to make it!  It looked heavenly!

So this morning I had a houseful of kids (both my kids had friends sleep over) so I thought this was the perfect time to make it.  Oh sure, it's called "cake" but Maria said it was a breakfast cake so that's what I went with.  =o)  Thanks, Maria!  Any reason to eat deliciousness in the morning and I'm there!

It was super easy to make and man, oh, man!  Amazing!!!

Honey Bun Cake

Source: Raising 4 Princesses

* 1 box of yellow cake mix

* 4 eggs

* 1 cup sour cream

* 3/4 cup vegetable oil

* 3/4 cup brown sugar

* 2 tsp. cinnamon

Glaze

* 2 cups powdered sugar

* 1 tsp. vanilla

* 6 Tbsp. milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Reserve 1/2 cup of the cake mix and set aside.

In a medium bowl, mix cake mix, eggs, sour cream and vegetable oil.  Don't use a mixer because you want the cake dense.  Stir well.

Pour a little less that half of the batter into a sprayed 9x13 pan.

In a small bowl, combine the reserved 1/2 cup cake mix, brown sugar and cinnamon and stir well.   Spread evenly over the batter in the pan.

Spread remaining batter over cinnamon layer.  You can gently swirl with a knife if you want.  I did because that's what Maria did and I learned my lesson not following directions when I made my S'more Cookie Tarts.  =o)

Bake for 30 - 45 minutes depending on pan size and oven.  It's done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

While it's baking, make the glaze.  Pour over the cake when it comes out of the oven.

Summer Movie Express at Regal Cinemas

Summer kind of snuck up on us this year. I normally have a big list of things to do with my kids that are free or super inexpensive. (Because I like free and super inexpensive.) So I'm sorry this is late this year.  But this is a good one.  

Do you and your kids like going to the movies?  We do.  But I hate paying a fortune for them!  It's ridiculous!

A couple of years ago I found out about The Summer Movie Express Program through Regal Cinemas.  Now we go to the movies a ton during the summer.

What is the Summer Movie Express?  You can go here to find out more but in a nutshell, movies are $1 on Tuesdays and Wednesday for a 10am showing.  There is a G movie or a PG movie to chose from and the choices vary by area.

Orange You Glad It's Summer Gift Idea

Are you looking for another fun and easy gift idea? This one is perfect! We gave them to my kid's teachers on the last day of school but they can be for friends, daycare providers, family, you name it! And you can make them as big or small as you would like.

I found the idea on Coley's Corner where she has the free printable. (Who doesn't love free printables??!!)

Then I went to the Dollar Store and bought these cute orange bags (2 for $!) and filled them up with orange things I also found at the Dollar Store: silly string, Cheetos, Reese's Pieces and Orange Soda.  I spent a total of $15 on all 4 gifts.   I love it!

And voila!  Fun summer (or end of year teacher) gifts.
