"Let's Roll Into School" Back to School Teacher Gift

My kids and I were going through all the fun back to school teacher gift ideas and were about to pick out our favorite when we spied this fun and easy idea over on The Taylor House blog (who found it over on Craft Junkie Too).  Tracy even made the printable for me to steal use.  I absolutely love free printables!

This is such an easy idea!  It didn't take long to make nine little bags but I hope my kid's teachers will feel a little appreciated and excited to start back to school on Tuesday.

You'll need the free printable found here, ribbon, mini Tootsie rolls and celo bags.  Easy so far right?!

I mounted my cards on thicker card stock so they wouldn't be so flimsy.  Chrissy laminated hers which is genius.  I would have done that if I actually had a laminator, but I don't (insert sad face here.)

Easy peasy!

Back to School Teacher Gift Ideas

I can't believe it's the end of summer! Here in Oregon we don't go back to school until September 4th.  So we have a little time left to come up with the perfect back to school teacher gift.  I'm a firm believer in showing teachers how important they are!  And why not start the year off with a smile... and a treat.

Here are some great ideas I found out there in blogland.  We haven't decided which one we're making (so if you're looking at this Mrs. Fox or Mrs. Passmore, pretend to be surprised on Tuesday) =o)

We made these great 1st Day of School Pencils out of Rolos.

We made these fun (and easy) Pencil Holders for my kid's teachers 2 years ago.  (Yikes, it's been 2 years!)

This is an easy and fun idea for a "Write Teacher Gift".

I wish I could make cookies this cute for the teachers!  The Baking Sheet did an amazing job with these!

Back to School Teacher Gift

School is about to start here. Ugh! Not that I don't want my kids to go to school. That's the great part. But that also means I have to go back to work. I'm not quite ready for that part. (Big sigh!)

I wanted to do something for my kid's teachers but I really didn't want to spend a lot of money. I have been stressing a little bit over this but then I found this fantastic idea and knew this was what we were going to do.

Every teacher needs pens. (I work in a middle school. I know this very important fact.) Cool pens are a giant bonus. I thought these were pretty cool. Best part - they were on sale at Fred Meyer for $2.69 and then there was a buy one get one free coupon. But it gets even better! I had a coupon for $2 off any school supply purchase. So I paid 69 cents for both packages! Yipee!

Then I went over to Itsy Bitsy Paper and printed out these very cool (and free) tags that Lindy provided and backed them with some colored cardstock. And viola!


The perfect little teacher gift for the first day of school.

Back To School Teacher Gift

The first week of school is always so hectic. I know for me it is. So I decided to wait until the second week before we gave my kids' teachers their back to school gifts.


We made them these cute pencil holders. They were really easy and didn't cosy much at all.


What you'll need:
* empty can
* pencils (our took 34 pencils each)
* ribbon
* hot glue gun
* cardstock for the bus


Start gluing the pencils onto the can. I did this step myself since I only have a HOT glue gun. It's not a low temp one. And I'm bad enough. I don't need my kids burning themselves. I'm like the shop teacher that's missing some fingers. I'm the crafter with constant hot glue gun burns on my fingers. But my daughter did hand me the pencils as I needed them.

Then I got out my Cricut. It was like reuniting with an old friend. I haven't used it since December and oh how I've missed that baby!

I used my Stretch Your Imagination cartridge and cut out a cute school bus. You could do an apple or anything school related. I chose the bus.

My kids also helped with this step. They pushed all the buttons on the machine and were great helpers!

We tied a bow around the pencil holder and glued it on.

Then we glued the bus to the end of the ruler.

And there you have it. Very cute pencil holders for the teacher's desks. We hope they like them!

And I couldn't let the year start without posting a picture of my kids on their first day of school. My son started 2nd grade and my daughter started kindergarten. Aren't they just the sweetest faces ever?!?!

Now That's My Kind of Pencil!

Holy smokes. It's the first day of school already. Where did the time go?! If you read my last post you know I'm not super excited about it being school time again. Oh sure, I love my job and all but come on. Summer time rocks! So it's back to the grind today so I thought I'd make a little back to school gift for my kids and for some of my co-workers. I wanted to make them for all the staff at my school but the thought of making 45 of anything didn't sound too appealing. So sorry to everyone who didn't get one. I guess you should be nicer to me during the year. =o) (Just kidding... kind of.)

I saw these in blog land a week or so ago. I feel like a total nub once again that I can't find where they came from. The wonderful tech guys at my work did something to my computer and lost all my bookmarks. Yep, you read it right... LOST all of them. So I can't find a single thing anymore. So all the fantastic crafts and recipes that I've been meaning to make are now gone. Ugh. So if this fantastic idea came from you, please leave a comment so I can change this and link back to you and give you credit for this totally cute idea!

So I gathered up these supplies to make these totally cute back to school "pencils".
* package of Rolos
* Hersheys Kiss
* pink paper
* pencil yellow paper
* aluminum foil
* ribbon
* glue gun

First glue the Hersheys kiss onto the end of the Rolo package.

Then wrap the entire thing in aluminum foil.

Cut out a band of pink paper and glue it on one end.

Cut out a 1 inch circle and glue it on the end of the same end (for the eraser).

Cut out a piece of yellow paper. Use zig zag craft scissors to cut one end and write "Happy First Day of School" on it. (Or anything else you want!)

Glue on the yellow piece of paper and tie a ribbon on it and there you have it!

Who wouldn't like to get one of these?!?!

Spiral Notebook Make Over

I can hardly believe it's about time for school to start up. My first reaction is "ugh". Because this also means I'm back to work now. Yep. I had to go back to work this week. No more summer break. No more sleeping in until 6:30am (yep, that's sleeping in for us.) No more crafts and fun and playing all week. It's back to the grind. My second reaction is still "ugh!"

So we've been gathering all of our school supplies and trying to get in the last of the crafting before it's back to our routine. And when I saw these great spiral notebook "make overs" I thought I would give them a try.

I'll be honest with you. At first I thought "that might be kind of tricky bending the wire and removing it." I hesitated a little bit but then thought "what the heck". I'd give it a try.

This is what we started out with. Yep, just the normal old spiral notebooks. They are 25 cents right now. That's pretty cheap.

I opened an empty cereal box. We've been saving our cereal boxes for awhile because I knew we were going to make these.

I measured the front of the spiral notebook and then cut the box down to size.

I carefully bent the metal wire so it was easier to remove from the notebook.

It was a piece of cake!

Then I removed the top cover and placed it on the cereal box so I could mark the holes.

Not too bad so far, right?

Then I used my hole punch and punched out the holes. I used my Cropodile (which is the best tool EVER!) But any hole punch will do.

Then run the wire back through the holes and bend the end so it won't slip out. And there you have it.

Seeing all these next to each other like this I guess it's no secret that we love cereal.

My kids are so excited to take these to school. Much cooler than the normal spiral notebook and there won't be any mistaking which notebook is theirs!
