Glow In The Dark Bath

When I saw this idea over on You'll Thank Me One Day I knew I was going to try this for my kids.  I mean seriously... how cool is this!

I went to the Dollar Store and spent $6 on 6 packages of glow sticks.  I went upstairs and filled the bath without telling my kids and cracked 3 packages of glow sticks in the bath.  Then I turned off the lights and told my daughter to come up stairs.  She walked into the bathroom and just stared at the tub.  After about 45 seconds (seriously!  It was so cute!) she dropped her jaw and saw "Oh my gosh!  The bath is glowing!"  Then she screamed at the top of her lungs "CODY, GET UP HERE NOW!"  I filled the other bath for my son.

So for $6 my kids sat in their baths for almost an hour, giggling and hollering to each other "totally cool, right?!"  It was so worth it!

Some people think that you need money to make special memories.  Some people think it's the big things in life that we remember when we're old.  Some people think that expensive gifts show someone you care about them.  I disagree with those.  It's the small moments that make up our lives.  It's the simple things that we remember when we are old.  It is the small and simple things that we do for or with our children that shows them how special they are.

  You can live an ordinary life or you can live and extra-ordinary life.  I'm going for extra-ordinary!

How will you make your day special?

Homemade Slime - We Had To Do It

Every time we go to OMSI and play in the children's activity room with slime the kids say "we need to make a bunch of that at home." But then we saw this post and I new I couldn't put it off any longer. (Especially since my daughter was sitting right next to me and shouted "oh my gosh, Mom, let's make that right now!"

It was really easy to make and totally worth it. My kids loved it!

Things you'll need:
* Borax
* water
* Elmer's glue
* plastic cup
* Popsicle sticks for stirring
* food coloring

Tidy Mom has a great YouTube video on how to make it. But it's easy.

Measure out 1/4 cup Borax and pour it into a 2 liter bottle. Add water until it's about 1/3 full. Shake it up.

Measure out equal parts of glue and water. We used 1/3 cup of each.

Add the water to the glue and stir.

Add food coloring and stir.

While you are stirring, add a small amount of the Borax solution to the cup. A couple of drops at a time. Mix. The glue will start to "glob" around the Popsicle stick.

Keep adding a few drops of the Borax solution until it's as think as you want it.

Take the glob off of the Popsicle stick and wash it off in water.

Now play! It's that simple.

You can roll it out. Cut it up. Roll it into a ball. It's endless!

My Son discovered that if you roll it out and then blow under it, it makes farting noises. Oh, how proud he was of his discovery =o)

Cornstarch Gloop {Kid Craft}

My kids love to make a mess! Is that abnormal? I'm thinking not. They love to squish their hands in gross things too. Wait, that doesn't sound right. You know what I mean! This was the perfect craft/activity.

I found this great idea over on this blog. She has a short video on her site that might explain it a little better too.

I don't think my pictures can do this "gloop" justice. They just can't give you the full affect on how cool it really is.

It's a liquid...

But it's also a solid. Does that make sense?

When you squish your hands into this mixture it's pliable and feels like a thick paste. But then you hold it for a second and it melts away. It's so cool!

Even though I can't even begin to describe how cool it is, my kids LOVE playing with this and ask to make Gloop all the time! And it's so easy!

Ingredients:
* 1 cup Cornstarch
* 1/2 cold water
* a few drops of food coloring

That's it!

In a measuring cup mix the water and food coloring.

Add it to the cornstarch Now mix and play!

Cheap and fun! I like those kinds of activities =o)

Glow In The Dark Drinks

What could be better than a drink that glows in the dark, right? Darn right! My kids thought these were so much fun. We made them on the 4th (which was totally fun). We're going to do these when we go camping in a couple of weeks too. (We're not up past dark very often.) =o) I can picture my kids, giant smiles on their faces, sitting around the campfire with these in their hands.

The idea came from Come Together Kids. So cool!

You'll need glow in the dark bracelets, clear plastic cups and a larger plastic cup.

Snap the glow in the dark bracelet and place in the bottom on the larger plastic cup. Now place the smaller plastic cup inside and push it down to fit snuggly.

It's that simple! Now fill the smaller glass with something delicious to drink and have fun!

Cool, right?

Homemade Super Balls

Super balls. Every kid loves 'em. Who knew you could make 'em. We wanted to see if they would work. Okay.... FUN! It was a gooey and sticky process but look how cool they are!!!

You will need:
  • 1 Tbls. glue (Elmers glue, NOT craft/tacky glue. Just trust me on this!)
  • 1/2 tsp. Borax
  • 1 Tbls. cornstarch
  • 4 Tbls. warm water
  • food coloring
  1. Put the glue and food coloring in one cup. Mix it up.
  2. In another cup mix the Borax, cornstarch and warm water. Stir.
  3. Add the water mix to the glue mix and stir it up! It'll be a gooey blob at this point.
  4. Dump the liquid out of the cup and roll into a ball. You'll have to do this for awhile. It'll be pretty mushy and a little gross feeling at first. Keep rolling. If it seems too "wet" roll it on a paper towel to get some of the liquid off.
Keep rolling and there you have it... homemade super balls!

Just a side note - in the morning or when they sit for awhile, they will flatten out somewhat. We stored ours in the plastic Easter eggs to help keep their shape. But just roll them again when you pick them up and they will go back to being a ball.

Easter Printables Galore

I love Easter. I love everything about Easter. Call me crazy, but I do. Now that April Fool's Day is over I can concentrate 100% on Easter. Yeah! My kids have already asked when we are going to dye Easter eggs. We might do that today in fact.

One thing I can't do is create things on the computer. Things like cool printables. I'm not very computer savvy so I don't even try. And really, there are so many cool things out there already why not just use what's there, right? (That's me justifying not learning.) =o)

Here are some of the great things we found out in cyber space and we thought we would share them with all of you...

How cool is this great printable?! I found it over on Flamingo Toes. She made them in different colors too so go check them out!

And how about this letter you can send to your child from the Easter Bunny! Who doesn't want a letter from the Easter Bunny?!?! You can find it (and lots more) here.

I love the idea of an Easter Egg coloring party? My kids would love this! I found these cute invitations here.

How cute are these Bunny and Chick bags and can't wait to make them for my kids! You can find the printables here.

And look at this cute printable found here. I think my daughter would like this in her lunch box!

Love this totally cute Easter envelope template found here.

I thought this was cute. A great lacing activity for your kids to do. They have lots of different animals and pictures to chose from here.

My kids love mazes and word finds! Here are some great ones!

And look at this cute card and tag that you can print out here.

Don't you just love these super cute Bunny Straws. There's the complete how to here.

And Jenn's Easter Song and Fingerplay Book is amazing. Go here to download it!

What about these great Easter gift tags found here. Aren't they cute?
